55. Sinéad O’Connor - I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got (1990) - When it comes to poignance, this Irish has never had a problem evoking it. The way her face looks stunning as she chronicles the thought of her fame and previous relationships. This beautifully pensive shot can also be seen his huge “Nothing Compares 2 U” video. This striking image also appears to be somewhat religious with the dimmed our bottom half of her face. There would be not another soul who can captivate us with an image like this. Seriously, who else could possibly pull this off? #sineadoconnor#idonotwantwhatihaventgot#1990#albumcovers#top100#getburkworthy#greatestalbumcoversofalltime
Rolling Stones fans may not see eye-to-eye on the content of Their Majesties Satanic Request. But the art work is stunning, a testament to a time when album art was almost as important as radio play.
Yes, the cover, initially in 3D, has been called a rip-off (satire?) of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band: similar outlandish costumes, the same pose, the homage to their rivals (faces of the Beatles are hidden on the cover).
The entire cover design is elaborate, with a photo collage filling most of the inside cover (along with a maze) designed by Michael Cooper, and a painting by Tony Meeuwissen on the back cover depicting the four elements (Earth, Water, Fire, and Air), says Wikipedia.
To many critics and fans, the record was disappointing. Rolling Stone magazine said the album had moments of unquestionable brilliance, but the group "have been far too influenced" by their musical inferiors and the result is an insecure album.
To be fair, the Stones had a few things weighing them down at that time: drug busts, visits to prison, time in the courtroom.
A later version of the album shown here had 10 bonus tracks, including demos, early and partial mixes and more stray birds not ready for prime time. Still of keen interest to fans.
If nothing else, the album reflects the jail-door slamming chaos the Stones were facing outside the recording studio in 1967.
