Y’all! I used to HATE feet. And I mean loathe and despise them. My husband @dubblj use to ask me for foot rubs or to touch his feet in some sort of way and I would literally gag every time. I wouldn’t touch them, I hated them and I would avoid it at all cost. •
Then I went through yoga teacher training. The assisting weekend was something I was so nervous and anxious about because “how was I supposed to let go and touch other people’s feet?” I couldn’t even touch my husbands feet and these are complete strangers!! Guess what? I let it go, I got past it, I washed my hands more and I can now touch feet. When Jim asks and I give him a foot rub, he never fails to remind me, it was so worth going thru yoga training even if this is all that it means...him getting foot rubs!! And that’s true love right there! •

I have been struggling! I think there is a misconception that when you are a nutrition coach you must have it all together all of the time. Let me tell you, that is so far from the reality of the situation. Even with working to have a wide breadth of knowledge in the nutrition industry, it can be very difficult to apply the same principles that you are coaching every day.

What we want to do @blackironnutrition, is to help guide you to a sustainable lifestyle free of dieting and just finding joy in your nutrition. Not bondage. But, sometimes that’s easier said than done. Often times when the new wares off, we start to search for the new shiny tools that we believe will work better than the ones we tried but didn’t succeed at. I have been so guilty of that, and more so recently.

As I have grown older, I am now knocking on the doorstep of being premenopausal and let me tell you, that brings about a whole new layer of learning and deep diving into understanding what my body needs RIGHT NOW. What my body needs now is very different from what it needed 3 years ago when I started tracking macros. It was easy to lose fat and stay consistent. Now with life’s new pressures, older kids with growing needs, and a body that needs more and more hormonal support, I have to learn and adapt in order to heal my body the best way that I can.

I was laid off from my full-time job about a week ago. If you know me you know I obsess over the unknown and my anxiety tries to creep up to intimidate me. I am adapting to this artist/maker life though. I always had a fear of not having enough by not having a full-time job, society makes you feel that way, ya know, measure your worth by your capital. These days I can relax a little (although my workaholic tendencies take over), to measure my worth by my mental stability, my happiness and my family.

Studio wise, I have a couple commissions I'm working on and little side projects. I'm happier, less stressed and getting much needed sleep!

I hated myself for years and it got me no where. I’ve made so much more progress on my goals, both body and otherwise, in the few years since I started loving myself than I did in my entire life before then
I still have body issues, I still struggle from time to time, I still fight my inner demon telling me im not where I want to be, but the truth is that everybody struggles once in a while, and that's totally okay, you would never fully appreciate your accomplishments or the battles youve won if you constantly felt "okay" with yourself
So here's a big shoutout to everyone who's working on loving their bodies because that shit's hard and im proud of you

At first, I was going to spell out, "If it doesn't challenge you, it won't change you" but I think we are all a little bit overwhelmed with ALL the challenges right now (or is it just me 🙋🙍) aaaand if you're not feeling confident in the first place, you won't have the energy to tackle those challenges. So here's a helpful reminder that you, dear Music Therapist, already have SO MUCH to offer. Think of all you have done that has brought you to this point, you graduated from a four year degree (you passed Ear Training for pete's sake!), some of you even tackled your master's, you have studied the literature, some of you have written the literature, you have calluses on your fingers that may never go away, you can change guitar strings in the blink of an eye and change lyrics to any song. Your therapeutic intuition lets you know if it's going to be a Shake It Off kind of day or a Happy one. You see people that others don't, you don't make boxes for your clients, you help them stomp on them, you can jump, sing, AND play an F chord all at the same time! You already have so much to offer and no amount of technical difficulties, missed sessions, or quarantine lag can take that away from you ❤👏 Thanks for the inspiration + confidence boost @slpnow 🎉

We have a schedule for the kids. Do we stick to it? Not really. 🤷🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️ I mean they ARE doing their schoolwork thanks to their AMAZING teachers!!! 🙌🏻
And while we are all trying to keep things as normal as possible through all of this, it’s OKAY to lower your standards and just make it through the day, one day at a time. GIVE YOURSELF GRACE!!! ❤️
But I also encourage you to have like FIVE non-negotiables to accomplish for YOU each day. Mine?
1. Spend time with Jesus
2. Caffeinate (my plant-based preworkout is my preferred method)
3. Move my body
4. Repeat step 2 as many times as necessary 🤪
5. Drink my superfoods
If I can just make time for MY SELF-CARE to get THAT to-do list done...then I have the energy, focus, capacity, and willingness to do all the other things!!

As consistency is crucial to most activities in life, so it is to reading. Read daily. Learn something new. It might not be easy at the beginning, but it surely is worth it.

It’s not that external outcome that is bringing the feeling, it’s the feeling that is bringing the external outcome.
Think about it.. why do you want anything that you do? You believe that you’ll have more freedom if you have more time. You’ll feel freedom when xyz is given to you. You’ll feel completed when you have that relationship. You’ll feel secure when you have that money and career.
Life is always changing. Freedom, time, wholeness, and security are constructs of our minds. Therefore, we have the power to tap into those feelings.
Use your willpower to change what you can. Find freedom in your choices, in looking at the sky, in voting or speaking for what you believe in, in believing in possibility. Let go of that which you cannot change. Send it love. Forgive the past. Let yourself be free of it.
Decide that you can slow down, time will expand. Pathways to have more ease will open up. Take deep breaths. Walk a little slower. Be a little more present. You’ll naturally start making more choices that value your time instead of feeling the pressure to burn it away.
Who told you that you are not whole? Where is this belief coming from? Sit with yourself. Yes, you have pain, but under that layer, there is a deep rooted knowing. This wisdom and tenderness is your true essence. No thing, person, experience, or words can take that away from you. It may add layers of soot over your wholeness, but it is never gone. Clean the cobwebs and get back to who you truly are.
Decide that you are rooted and safe. Notice that it’s your past traumas and societal conditioning that is making you feel that you must live up to some constructed expectation in order to be whole. Heal your fears, and then turn outside of yourself to use your energy and goodness to grow and shelter others.
