And just like that.. the 2020 Open is DONE! A few words I’d use to describe my feels: PROUD - HUMBLED - INSPIRED.
The Open serves as such a integral part of the CrossFit Community. A time where members and coaches come together to put their training to the test. The atmosphere is off the charts. People slam bars and get PRs.Who doesn’t love it!?As athletes, it serves as a tool to pinpoint any holes in our game (or at least for us mere mortals it does). Those who are at the top of the game, barely even show a sign of a small crack. Which is what makes it even more impressive!Every year, the calibre of athlete continually gets better and better. Just when you think something isn’t humanly possible, someone, somewhere, proves you wrong. For some, the open is an exciting time, for others, it can be super stressful. Unfortunately, the whole idea of “leaderboarding” can play quite a toxic role in the lives of those who fixate on it. One minute, you’ve got someone riding the high of their victories, the next, they’re on the verge of a mental breakdown because things didn’t go to plan. Let me teach you a trick that I’ve picked up along my journey. Be genuinely happy for other peoples success! Don’t use the leaderboard to compare yourself to others. One workout doesn’t define WHO YOU ARE, or what you’ve achieved. Although there are “freaks of nature” who rise up in the sport out of no where, most people have spent years mastering their craft. Years working on ironing out their weaknesses, allowing them to slowly crawl up the leaderboard. In my opinion, It is a right of passage. Seeing people succeed, and seeing what they are capable of, should fuel your fire EVEN MORE. It is proof that if you grit your teeth, work hard consistently, you’ll reap the rewards. Kudos to all you mighty fit kids out there. It has been an extremely inspiring, and humbling experience watching your performances over the last five weeks!REMEMBER-The leaderboard doesn’t define who you are!Allow other peoples success to demonstrate what is possible for you- rather than allowing it to consume your thoughts and make you feel inadequate.Rise up to the challenge and be a good role model.
3 massive side lateral MISTAKES
Side lateral raises target the side delt which is the most important head of the 3 if you want to really maximize your overall thickness and shoulder width.
I had done side laterals wrong for years, my #traps were very dominate which was taking away from what could have been roundness of my delts because I was not training them properly and I was making the mistakes I will list below!
Mistakes to avoid!
✖️Excessive momentum with heavy weight
✔️This exercise should be done with out any movement of the upper body, choose a weight that you can perform with strict control, focusing the tension on the side delt
✖️Maintaining a completely up right posture
✔️Rather than standing straight up or leaning back to with the motion try bend slightly at your knees and lean forward
✖️Allowing your hand to raise higher than your elbows
✔️To make sure that your side delt is being activated and used in this exercise make sure your hands and elbows are in alignment with each other as you rise the weight up
When I was able to learn and correct my form, my entire shoulder cap and width has changed. For that perfect #3D shoulder cap. Thankful for learning this!
📍Save for your next shoulders day!
