S T O R Y T I M E...
I used to have a sign that said: “Happiness is not a destination, it is a way of life.” I’d hung it strategically, to cover my apartment’s circuit breaker. It was not a particularly pretty sign, but it was better than the gray electrical box, and, I wanted so badly to believe those words, to live my life that way. I could see the sign from my bed. And I read and reread its mantra.
At the time, I’d been deep in a lifestyle of outsourcing my happiness. This looked like chasing, achievement, and endless & exhausting uncertainty within self. Life presented some of its hard lessons and losses while that sign hung in my life. There were periods when its words seemed almost mocking, or, in the thick of things, cruel. When I moved, that sign did not come with me. But, its mantra, of all things, did.
I see, now, that the sign did not say, “just choose to be happy,” which is quite possibly the most unhelpful thing one human being can say to another. I will go one step further and add that, as a human whose experience has included anxiety since childhood, this is a harmful thing to say to a loved one facing mental health challenges.
I think there are ways we can lean into and nurture good feelings (and I created this page as a way to discuss those), but I don’t see any value in telling someone to deny the truth of their experience. That is invalidation, people.
This sign, as I see it now, was merely a reminder to stop giving away my power by believing in the idea that happiness exists in something or someplace beyond my grasp, that it’s a fairy-dust feeling accessible only to the few who reach certain afters. That I had to perform for and earn it. That I could “have it” ONLY when things panned out according to plan. The truth is there is no noun that will MAKE us human folk happy. Nothing has that kind of power. Not for long. There will always be the next best thing to pin our happiness to, and that endless, dogged pursuit doesn’t feel good.
I believe that sign was an invitation to redefine happiness within my own value system, and explore the small ways I could lean into it on a day-to-day basis. On my terms.

It’s easy to get caught up in the noise of social, someone else’s accomplishments and ambitions. It looks pretty on the outside but it’s not always for you.
If you’re anything like me, you have a tendency to get so caught up in the next goal that you forget to listen to what your heart, body, and mind are telling you.
What I’ve found is that when I really assess what I’m working toward, it’s not really a helicopter, or a million dollars, or taking the stage in front of thousands of people
It’s actually just senses of freedom, security/abundance, and making an impact on people. There’s a big difference between the two.
And when I look a little deeper I realize that to one degree or another I already have those things - and it helps me stay patient and diligent.
More so it helps me get clarity in my daily actions - I can be more intentional and thoughtful in what I do because it’s about making what I have better - not necessarily achieving more.
It helps me align my heart and actions a little more.
It can be sticky. But I’d say don’t get so caught up in trying to acquire more when the real fulfillment can be found in creating the best version of what you already have. 💙
My husband took this photo of me on a perfect day package he planned for me on one Sunday & this photo is a reminder to love as much as you can show you care as much as you can & be greatful for every little moment with your loved ones because life is so unpredictable you dont want to look back & wish that you did better in showing loved ones in your life how special they are to you.

These are two of the pages that I run for the cardistry/playing card community. These are the two niches that I'm a part of and each with its own purpose.
Lone Star Cards was created with the intent to showcase the talent and to community within Texas. I started out thinking I was the only one in the city that practiced the art and now I've met over a dozen people that engage in the same passion as myself. It's been an amazing experience getting to know everyone. And while the page has been seeing slow growth lately, it's growth nonetheless. I look forward to seeing everyone grow within our great community.
Cardistry News in my newest page and has been seeing really steady growth. At this time we've hit an average of over 100 followers a week which is insane to me and my collaborator. It's solely dedicated to the news within our community to help keep everyone up to date on the newest projects within our niche.
I love this stuff and I plan to keep going for as long as I can.
Working out and eating right takes a LOT of mental energy, it consumes your time and you have to think about it everyday. It is daily EFFORT! But you have to get to a point where you welcome it, enjoy it, push through it and allow it to be a part of your life. That is, if you want to look good, feel good and stay healthy. There is no other way, so EMBRACE it and ACCEPT it. I rode the waves to acceptance, I was grumpy, I was tired, I was aggravated until it finally settles and peace is found, new habits are formed and you start seeing/feeling results🙏🏼 @ladythefup
My spin bike is the BEST investment I ever made for my cardio needs. I’ve tried many machines, I run still for variety, I did skipping rope, but this spin bike makes me burn calories like nothing else AND it’s better for my knees than running.👊🏼
