When Americans swear in as Peace Corps Volunteers, they make a commitment. It’s tough to sum up in words, but in our official pledge, we try:
I [first, last name] promise to serve alongside the people of ___. I promise to share my culture with an open heart and open mind.
I promise to foster an understanding of the people of ___, with creativity, cultural sensitivity, and respect.
I will face the challenges of service with patience, humility, and determination.
I will embrace the mission of world peace and friendship for as long as I serve and beyond.
In the proud tradition of Peace Corps’ legacy, and in the spirit of the Peace Corps family past, present, and future — I am a Peace Corps Volunteer. ❤️

Zambia, Africa📍Peace Corps Volunteer @hunzicker lives with his partner in this house. “I don’t have any electricity or running water here, but fortunate enough to have a dope solar setup for charging things. Most of our house is made from mud! We form bricks with the dirt and water in mortars and let them dry for a couple days before use. Instead of cement, we also just use mud. We have a three room house (kitchen, bedroom and living room) all of which we had plastered and painted to make it really feel like home. We really don’t have neighbors. Our community in particular is very rural (maybe 400-500 people and probably half of them are under 10). We live next to the only church, borehole (a machine for pumping water), school and football field so we get to see everyone in community and greet pretty much daily!”

Желаем удачи в дальнейшем,продолжайте учить наших учеников английскому языку.😻 ______________________________________________________

Does it count as a staycation if I’m still in Morocco?
Camp GLOW last week was a SUCCESS! 👸🏿👸🏾👸🏿
Girls from rural communities all over the island participated in a career workshop, conflict resolution challenge courses, Black Is Beautiful hair and skin care discussions, created their own skin care products, learned some West African dance moves (amongst a few other Jamaican music dance parties), roasted marshmallows over a bonfire, participated in a talent show, and ended with a water balloon fight.
Thank you to our project partner @ywop.ymop, to our speakers, donors, camp counselors and Peace Corps Volunteers. I'm so proud of our campers and so grateful for this Peace Corps experience 🇯🇲
Today is the day I try something new. I have been longing to make this move for a while now but wasn’t sure exactly what and how I would do it. Off to Ukraine with the Peace Corps! Who would have thought. I am thankful to everyone that pushed me forward, passed along kind words, and took time to stop at my party to chat. Additionally thanks to those that passed cash my way! It was honestly very helpful! Thanks to my amazing friend @jennifernigrelli12 for making this idea not sound totally nuts. She joined the army at 27 (total badass) so I figured I could do this. It has been a blast meeting the group I’ll be traveling with. Everyone is super motivated and it’s great to be surrounded by that. Ciao ciao #ukraine#peacecorps#travel#adventure#explore#trynewthings#learn#grow
gonna miss this little guy. never would've thought I'd make a genuine friendship with a 14 year old. on top of that, somehow it happened regardless of the language barrier between us. just goes to show how music can bring people together. between jam sessions on my ukulele, teaching each other dances (he taught me some American dances I didn't know ?? haha) and just listening to music while playing cards we created this beautiful one of a kind connection. my host family has been joking about me bringing him to site with me and I tbh really wish I could. but alas. a quote from Pooh Bear: how lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard
Day 96: No day like Sunday to feature Morija’s church. Built in 1858 by French missionaries, this was the first church in Lesotho. The original church lacked the more elaborate steeple, as you can see in the last b&w picture. Other than that, you can see that the changes over the years have been minimal - making it a sort of time capsule. The church today is the seat of the Lesotho Evangelical Church of Southern Africa (LECSA). #last100days#lesotho#morija#peacecorpslesotho#ed87#peacecorps#howiseepc#church#oldchurch#lecsa#architecture
