repost from @hbcualum “HBCU’s don’t prepare you for the corporate environment.” We laugh. Look at all of these HBCU students interning at @Google in the Bay Area this summer! Not only do our institutions prepare us, but we excel! - @tretelingram
The successful partnership between Howard University and Google, formerly known as Howard West, today officially expands to include students from additional Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) along with Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs). Now known as Tech Exchange, the program covers the full academic year, supporting 65 rising juniors and seniors, and five faculty members from 11 institutions: Howard, Florida A&M University, California State University – Dominguez Hills, Morgan State University, New Mexico State University, Prairie View A&M University, North Carolina A&T State University, Dillard University, University of Texas – El Paso, University of Puerto Rico – Mayaguez, and Spelman College.
The expansion came after a successful three-month pilot program with Howard University students was completed during the Summer of 2017 at Google’s Silicon Valley headquarters. The residency includes a dedicated workspace on Google’s Mountain View campus, a generous stipend to cover housing and other expenses, and full access to Google resources, from gyms to micro-kitchens to the eponymous Gbikes.

Feels kind of surreal being here a second time. Graduating with a Master’s degree in a field where not many people look like me. Knowing that all of the late night hours, prayers from family, encouragement from friends and wisdom from mentors have manifested to allow me to keep going... to be great. I thank God for bringing me thus far and guiding me through this life. This is only the beginning. #MasteredIt#MechanicalEngineering#NSBE 🎓✨#blackengineer

I’ll be graduating tomorrow from the the University of Southern California with my bachelors in Aerospace Engineering.
I‘d be lying if I said it was easy or that I didn’t doubt myself at times. However, the motivation I received from thinking about the sacrifices my parents have made, the support of friends, and the teachers who told me that “I could” helped me to push myself every day and for that I say thank you. I believe and know that you can do anything you want in life if you have the passion, desire and grind to make it happen.
It was from a very young age that I became fascinated with planes and rockets and I can’t wait to work on them. ✈️🚀
Congratulations to these 400 gentlemen that received this blessing. *
Being able to start your career with ZERO student debt is huge and something many of us would have enjoyed. *
These young men will definitely bless many in the future.

As a first-generation and millennial college student, I’ve inherited the harsh challenges of financing my education. Unfortunately, even with scholarships, grants, and even loans it doesn’t cover everything. Confronted with this challenge I’ve been secretly teaching myself in-demand skills such as coding in hopes of obtaining a job in tech, so I will be able to continue to self-fund my education and hopefully graduate.
I’m not asking for a handout, donation, neither a go fund-me to help pay for my tuition, I’m simply asking for an opportunity. Currently I’m an engineering student at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, I have many experiences working in Engineering, Manufacturing, and IT for Fortune 500 companies. I’ll be posted outside of Exit 14 of I-280 right on MLK Blvd in Newark, NJ handing out my resume to ongoing commuters. If you see me in passing, please don’t hesitate to take a picture/video and share it with your network.
All I request is that you like, comment, and share this with EVERYONE. You know a recruiter/employer that’s on Instagram? Tell them to DM me. Facebook? Message me. Linkedin? Let’s connect.
I have a link to my Linkedin and my Facebook in my bio.
S/O to my guy @e.a_n_ for making my STAY HUMBLE shirt.
P.S. I had no one to take a photo of me, so I paid a homeless man to take it for me.
