This is part of my first surface pattern collection that I created last year and just got loaded on Spoonflower this week. I took a couple of classes from @oksancia last year. Her classes are amazing if you’re wanting to learn repeat pattern design.
So, I haven’t posted in a while because I’ve been struggling with how to present my diversified self without seeming flakey. I have three skillsets that I’m building my business around: painting, illustration and surface pattern design. I love all three equally. Not justifying, but switching it up keeps me excited about what I’m doing.
However, being “diversified” can lead to confusion about what I do. I get that.
Those of you who also have multiple creative baskets, how do you deal with this issue? Does authenticity trump the risk of confusion?
Have a great weekend all!
”No such thing as a Life that's better than yours.” - J. Cole.
I encourage anyone out there that struggles with self-confidence like I once did. We live in a society where we are constantly comparing ours to theirs instead of being grateful for what we have. It’s easy to show everyone to good times in our lives, but we rarely see those same people post the hard times it took to get there... Instead, we should all thank God for our beauty and the many opportunities he blessed us with.
✨This beautiful photo of my art was taken by @teacuppoetry - look at that fancy tea cup guys! Alexis is the sweetest and cutest! Check out her page for beautiful poetry✨😘

Two of my favorite people - Dave @okrandomart and Nicole! Dave is the reason I ended up in a studio at Lowe Mill, and the big brother I never had. Both of them have the craziest, funniest humor and a huge heart for people. If you get a chance to meet them, do. Visit them at Studio 2052 at Lowe Mill and check out his art!
#9. I didn't nail the expression on this one, but I like the colors. I like posting even my mediocre work, because the process of learning is not a straight line. I improve, and then stagnate. I improve, and then backtrack. It's a normal part of practicing anything, and I don't want to hide it. Overall, I'm making progress. My work isn't perfectly consistent, but it's *more* consistent than it was a year ago. So when I look at this painting-- which is all right, but not great-- I still feel really proud. 😊
Thanks for the ref pic, @the_miniventurer
Hiiii! I will not be available for makeup at the studio this weekend or next weekend! See y’all in March! 🥰 If you’re a high school student and will be attending or know of anyone attending prom, please comment what schools and the dates. I will be doing a special for the young ladies that will be attending! Thank you so much! 💜
Maybe it’s more worthwhile to chase meaning rather than happiness and happiness will come from having a purpose which is bigger than ourselves.
By the way, lll be leaving free art at my door periodically. 😉💗
Today I spent the afternoon learning the art of oil painting from the lovely and talented @janephilipsstudio - If you aren’t following her work, DO IT. Her paintings are magical. I have never worked with oil before. learning a new medium can be frustrating for me (I get annoyed with stuff I’m not good at right away, anyone relate?), but Jane was a patient and gracious teacher and I can’t wait to learn more. What do you think of my monochrome still life??? 😄 #lowemillarts#shopLOWEcal#oilpainting#oilpainters#huntsvilleartist#alabamaartist#womeninart
Meet my fishy friends! Let's talk about stretching oneself out of comfort zones. 😍 When I was approached to contribute to a "fish" art exhibit at @mvac.arts I immediately said yes!!! Having never painted a fish and having a no animal paint policy, I didn't know how this was going to turn out. I mean I try to stay away from painting things with eyes 😂. But....it has been a pleasure to push myself out of home and architecture watercolors. These 3 pieces are just sneak peeks. I will have about 12 total original watercolor pieces available to view and purchase along with a host of other talented artist. This fun exhibit is just one way Guntersville Alabama kicks off the #bassmaster tournament on lovely Lake Guntersville. Hosting a Bass Master tournament is a big deal in case you didn't know. I'll be sharing more about this in the coming weeks but the artist meet and greet is March 5th. Please stop by and say hello! I'm an extravert and LOVE getting to see your faces and meet you! #lakeguntersville#lakeart#watercolorartist#bass#crappie#loudmouthbass#bassmasterclassic#bassmaster#fishing#professionalfisherman#profishing#huntsvilleal#huntsvilleartist
