when dominicans eat some sort of flavored rice dish like locrio de pollo (rice with chicken) or arroz con guandules (rice n peas) we usually just take a ripe banana and eat it on the side. like eating smth w avocado, i guess. & imo the more ripe the banana the more enjoyable..

Sweet afternoon at the river with the bonus of a hot pool on the other side...wow! Natural Jacuzzis as the river rushes over rocks, birds flying, fish swimming, and us soaking it all in. Waitukubuli is so sweet, so beautiful, peaceful, magical. Giving thanks for the daily #ecotherapy that we are able to enjoy while so much of the world is on #lockdown
Ah the only sad part was the garbage left by other people who seem to feel that it's ok to leave their plastic one they are done enjoying themselves. We did our best to do a trash collection as we left but please, please, please my fellow #Dominicans, clean up after yourselves once you enjoy the benefits of this paradise so that every generation can enjoy such blessings. Onelove, one heart, one people, one nation 🇩🇲💙☀

then you should also know that island was colonized by two different groups before all of that happened. haitians have french decent while dominicans have british/spaniard decent. and each colony did things differently more slaves were sent to the french colony (haiti)

They literally have their own label bc of how large they are. They’re depicted in movies and tv shows pretty often. There’s documentaries about them. I wonder if in the future the same will be done for other Lat am nationalities in the US like say Dominicans for example.

Cubans definitely have contributed a lot to latin culture as much as ricans and Dominicans have

Another word for it might be #vision. By seeing the distant horizon, #hope allows us to relax, knowing what we’re going through is not the last word. Hope believes in more & better, inspires us to strive for this, & sustains us in the struggle. So Paul describes #Christians not just as the faithful but also as the hopeful, those “called to hope”, “steadfast in hope”, “hoping against hope”, “cheerful hopers”.
Not gathering physically is hard for anyone, since human beings are made for relationship, for intimacy. It’s especially hard for Christians as our #faith is so personal, other-focused & communal. Yet from the very heart of such #suffering, #Christ proclaims #faith, hope, & #love! As we walk the Way of the Cross with Him, we too can proclaim that belief & dream & action.
#COVID19 has literally gone viral. So now must #Easter hope. #JesusChrist, the #Resurrection and the Life, the Physician of souls & bodies: He is our hope & with Him at our side, who can be against us?
In this time of uncertainty & flux, the love of Christ stands firm. O Lord, help us to be re-inspired by Your total #gift of Yourself for us on the #Cross, and be reassured by Your #promise that we can share in Your Easter Resurrection.

#Reconocido - - This Thursday, May 28 at 7pm/est, @reconoci.do will be talking with human rights lawyer Paola Pelletier, about "Statelessness and denationalization: 6 years after Law 169-14 in the context of COVID-19" •
In response to the international condemnation provoked by DR’s 2013 Constitutional Tribunal ruling that stripped nearly a quarter million #Dominicans of #Haitian descent of their nationality, the government passed the highly flawed and ineffective law 169-14. This law divided Dominicans of Haitian descent into two groups, A and B. •
Law 169-14 only recognized citizenship if a birth was officially registered between 1929 and 2007. Ignoring the fact that thousands of Dominicans of Haitian descent were actively prevented from registering their births due to #discrimination and poverty. Dominicans are therefore being forced to undergo a #naturalization process as if they are foreigners in their own country. However, the judicial process has countless barriers and many people are effectively #stateless. 🇩🇴🇭🇹
Hay un asiento 🪑 especial esperándome (no tu cara 🤡) en el salón 😭😭😭😂😂🤪💅🏾💅🏾💅🏾💅🏾 Slowly but surly the salons will open back up. I know they are waiting for me. ⠀
