Here are some shoulder stretches you can practice pretty much anywhere to reverse the effects of spending a lot of time behind a desk.
The next time you take an eye break practice these to help reset your posture.
Opening your shoulders = creating space in your body = space to breathe = better quality of breath = more energy + improves concentration 💙

Day 3 of #recoveringyogis is exploring ahimsa. The idea of do no harm applies to others as well as the self. In my disease I’m selfish, apathetic, and harmful whether intentional or not.
When we take the “ism” away the remaining behaviors linger unless you work some type of recovery program.
As a teacher I think about not causing harm or injury to students by teaching an anatomically sound class. Many teachers want to do dramatic, challenging sequences but may not realize that they could be inviting injury / dysfunction. This is what I also apply to my own practice - less is many times more these days 😉.

🏋🏼♂️ Yoga for weight lifters 🏋🏻♀️ Weight lifting is amazing for the body and mind but too building up the muscles without stretching can lead to aches and loss of ROM (range of movement) ⚡️If you’re a lifter or know someone who is i really hope this sequence helps your training and overall wellbeing. ⚡️ by modifying the asanas or using blocks this sequences theme becomes one of functionality and #mobility . 🏋🏻♀️Pose 1: Dancer
bending one leg behind you holding foot and lifting the opposite arm upwards. Lengthens to back and stretches the hip flexor and quads.
🏋🏼♂️Pose 2 : High lunge with cactus arms
Coming into high lunge with arms in cactus helps to open chest, shoulders and upper back - perfect position to compensate for the compression lifting heavy weights has on the upper body.
🏋🏻♀️Pose 3 : Runners lunge
Taking hands to blocks helps with stability and balance and also will help lengthen the back leg with will stretch out the back leg hip flexor.
🏋🏼♂️Pose 4 : Goddess squat
Different to the squats in lifting, Goddess opens up the hips and helps stretch the inner thighs and groin. Take feet to a diagonal sit back into hips not to deep though!.
🏋🏻♀️Pose 5 : Yogi Squat
Malasana is a wonderful hip opener but can feel overwhelming if your hips are super tight. Take a block or two and use as stool to rest on to elevate excess pressure and help you open them safely and slowly.
🏋🏼♂️Pose 6 : Cow Pose
Pressing through your hands on the mat, drawing shoulder blades apart, round spine and relax neck lowering your gaze, will completely stretch out the back and shoulders.
🏋🏻♀️Pose 7 : Thread the Needle
Reach upwards first to open the shoulder then thread under opposite arm taking ear to mat if you can

Ahimsa means non-violence or non-injury to yourself and all beings. .
I’ve been thinking a lot about ahimsa toward the self lately. And I’ve been thinking of all the ways we can be subtly, or not so subtly, harmful or injurious to ourselves. Blaming, judging, being critical, holding ourselves to unachievable standards, silencing our soulful inner voice....
My experience with ahimsa toward the self is that it’s not something you just do or achieve. It is a practice. A practice of unlearning a lot of injurious habits. And deep within that practice, that very messy and often grief-filled practice, are these incredible, powerful moments of clarity and strength, both on and off the mat. Because with this practice of kindness and tenderness toward yourself comes spaciousness. And spaciousness is what gives voice back to your soul.

To create new experiences we have to not only imagine them but to feel them so deeply that our mind and body are in a state of receiving them as reality and from that place of receivership we take action in the form of our thoughts, words and behaviour to bring our goals to fruition. Avoid action on our sense desires in the present moment. Having the tenacity to bring about the optimal outcome without causing harm to ourselves or others.
